Supplication, O God, Owner of the Kingdom

The entire kingdom belongs to God

God - Glory be to Him, the Most High - is the Creator of everything and He is the Owner of everything. He alone disposes of the universe and does what He wills. He has no partner or rival. No one can move except by His command and knowledge. The Almighty said: {Do you not know that to God belongs the dominion of the heavens? And the earth - and besides God you have neither guardian nor helper.} God - Glory be to Him - creates whatever He wills and does what He wills. He is the Giver and He is the One who prevents, He is the harmful and He is the beneficial, He is the giver and He is the humiliator. He makes whomever He wills rich, and He makes whomever He wills poor. And He makes whomever He wills dear, and He makes whomever He wills humiliated, for He is capable of all things. The Almighty said: {Whoever desires glory, to God belongs all glory}. The believing servant must know this well, and be completely certain, and trust in God Almighty. - In his request for sustenance, he relies on God alone, and turns to Him - Glory be to Him - with supplication to help him in that and guide him to the lawful path, for God is the Provider, and He is the one in whose hand are the keys to relief and the treasures of livelihood.

A supplication, O God, the owner of the firm kingdom in the Sunnah

(O God, You are the Owner of dominion. You give dominion to whomever You wish, and You take away dominion from whomever You wish. You exalt whomever You wish, and humiliate whomever You wish. In Your hand is good. You are capable of all things. Most Merciful of this world and the Hereafter, and Merciful of them. You give them to whomever You wish, and withhold from them whomever You wish. Have mercy upon me, with a mercy that will enrich me with mercy. Who else is you?) [Narrated by Al-Albani, in Sahih al-Targheeb, on the authority of Anas bin Malik, page or number: 1821, a good hadith.]

Explanation of the supplication: O God, Owner of the Kingdom

This is the supplication to pay off a debt that was mentioned in the hadith of Anas bin Malik - may God be pleased with him - on the authority of the Prophet - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - that he said to Muadh bin Jabal - may God be pleased with him -: (Shall I not teach you a supplication to pray that if you had a debt like the mountain of Uhud, you would have paid it? God on your behalf?), [4] So he taught him to say this supplication, and this supplication was also mentioned in the Holy Qur’an in His saying - the Almighty -: {Say, O God, Who is the Owner of dominion? You give dominion to whomsoever You will, and You take dominion from whomsoever You will, and You exalt whomsoever You will, and you humiliate. Whomever You wish, in Your hand is good Indeed, You have power over all things. You bring the night into the day and bring the day into the night. You bring forth the living from the dead and bring forth the dead from the living You provide for whomever You will without reckoning.

The meaning of the supplication: O God, Owner of the Kingdom

“O Lord, in whose hand is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and all command and dominion belongs to you, you are the one who gives dominion, sustenance, and empowerment in your land to whomever you wish of the people, and you take dominion from whomever you wish, and you grant glory in this world and in the hereafter to whomever you wish, and you place humiliation upon whomever you wish of your creation.” In your hand alone is all goodness, and you alone are capable of that, and you are the one who has mercy on creation with your wide mercy in this world and in the hereafter, so you grant giving and generosity to whomever you wish from your creation in this world, and you grant success and forgiveness to whomever you wish among your servants in the hereafter, so, O Lord, I ask you to have a wide mercy upon me. From you, I can dispense with it from creation, and I will no longer need anyone but you.”

Other supplications to pay off debt

Other supplications to pay off debts are mentioned in the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet, including:

(O God, protect me from what is forbidden with your lawful deeds, and make me rich with your grace from those other than you.)

(O God, I seek refuge in You from worry and sadness, I seek refuge in You from inability and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the oppression of men.)

(O God, I am Your servant, the son of Your servant, and the son of Your female servant, and in Your grip, my forelock is in Your hand. Your judgment over me is fair in your decree. I ask You with every name that is Yours that You have named Yourself with, or that You have revealed in Your Book, or that You have taught to any of Your creation, or that You have inspired or entrusted to Your servants You influenced it in the depths of the unseen with you to make the Qur’an The spring of my heart and the relief of my anxiety and grief.)

(O God, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Great Throne, our Lord and Lord of all things, You are the Manifest, and there is nothing above You, and You are the Inward, and there is nothing below You. Reveal the Torah and the Gospel and the Criterion, so separate love and intentions. I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything. You are the first to take it. You are the first, and He is not before you One thing, and you are the other. There is nothing after you. Take care of us debt and enrich us from poverty.)

The necessity of paying off debt

Islam has stressed the necessity of preserving rights among people, and among that is what it commanded regarding writing down the debt. He - the Almighty - said: {O you who have believed, when you contract a debt for a specified time, write it down}, and this is only to preserve rights and keep away quarreling and conflict, and Islam did not encourage On debt, but rather warned against it, and the Prophet - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - used to seek refuge with God from debt, because it might involve lying and breaking a promise. It was mentioned in the hadith: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, used to supplicate during prayer and say: (O God, I seek refuge You are a sinner and a debtor. Someone said to him: How often do you seek refuge, O Messenger of God, from a debtor? He said: If a man is in debt, he tells a lie and makes a promise and breaks it. So the scholars set conditions for debt, including the existence of a need. The truth is for borrowing, and for the request for money to be for something other than that It is forbidden, and the borrower must think most likely that he is capable of repaying it, and that he has a sincere intention and determination to repay the debt. The Prophet - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - explained the danger of not repaying the debt and warned against that, saying: (By the One in whose hand is my soul, if a man were killed for the sake of God, then he was brought back to life, then he was killed, then he was brought back to life, then he was killed, and he owed a debt. He will not enter Paradise until his debt is paid off from him.) So the Muslim indebted should hasten to pay off the debt on time, if he is able to do so, and not procrastinate, for the rich man’s procrastination is unjust. If someone is insolvent and unable to pay off the debt in his time, he must ask for an excuse and a grace period from the owner of the debt, and strive to pay off the debt as quickly as possible, by adopting the means of livelihood, exerting effort, fearing God, and seeking His help - Glory be to Him - through supplication, supplication, reliance, and trust in Him, and not being lenient or negligent in this matter. He does not know when death will strike him.
