Hajj rituals

The rituals of Hajj are the actions that a Muslim performs before, during and at the end of Hajj, and they are what God showed to his Prophet and friend Abraham .

The rituals of Hajj are divided into: pillars , duties , and sunnahs .


As for the pillars of Hajj, they are: standing at Arafat, Tawaf al-Ifadah, entering ihram, and sa’i between Safa and Marwa.

The obligatory duties in Hajj are: standing in Muzdalifah, spending the night in Mina, the farewell circumambulation, and stoning the Jamarat.

Among the Sunnahs is Tawaf al-Qudum, and heading to Mina on the eighth day of Dhul-Hijjah.


The rituals performed by the pilgrim are in order:

1- Ihram

2- Tawaf

3- Sa’i between Safa and Marwah

4- Tarwiyah Day in Mina

5- Standing at Arafat

6- Spend the night in Muzdalifah and stone Jamarat al-Aqaba

7- The sacrifice and decomposition

8- Tawaf Al-Ifadah

9- Throwing stones at the Jamarat during the days of Tashreeq

10- Farewell Tawaf and completion of Hajj


The pilgrim begins to enter ihram, then heads to the Kaaba. To circumambulate around it, then Sa`y between Safa and Marwah, and the pilgrim exits ihram if he is tamattu’, either if he is performing Qiran, or if he is performing alone; He does not decompose, then go to Mina on the eighth day of Dhul-Hijjah, then stop in Arafat on the ninth day, then head to Muzdalifah after sunset on the ninth day, and on the tenth day, stone the Jamarat of Aqaba, slaughter the sacrificial animal, shave or cut the hair, and circumambulate. Then return to Mina. And spending the nights of Tashreeq there, and throwing the three Jamarat. The Minor, the Middle, and the Aqaba, on each of the three days of Tashreeq. It is permissible for the hasty person to spend only two nights overnight, and the pilgrim concludes the Hajj activities by performing the Farewell Tawaf.
